History for 三田三昭堂

Mitasanshodo was founded in 1928 by Takeshi Mita in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture. The company originally made personal seals which are used in lieu of signatures in Japan. Constantly evolving with the times, the company expanded its product line to include paper, brushes and office implements.

**Fragrant Ink for a Sensuous Writing Experience*
**
Mitasanshodo partners with Kuretake, Ltd. in developing its signature Sumi and Hana inks. “Sumi” is a traditional Japanese ink used for calligraphy and art and known for its jet black color. Though true sumi is pigmented and not suited to fountain pens, we developed a dye-based ink with the qualities of sumi while adding subtle scents to offer a more sensuous writing experience. With a lineup of 9 original colors, there’s sure to be an ink for every occasion.

**Our Signature Ink Bottles*
**
Our glass bottles were designed by President Mita Hidehiko himself, and are made in none other than Tokyo’s Shitamachi, home to Japan’s best glassmakers. Though they were meant simply as containers for our Sumi and Hana inks, we began selling these bottles on their own at the request of our patrons. We also began to offer the option of a brass cap for a touch of added elegance. Like a fine wine, the brass ages with time, allowing the owner to enjoy its subtle changes in color.
